PETRONAS, through its Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has teamed up with Earth Science Analytics (ESA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to harness cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies. These collaborations aim to accelerate exploration efforts in the Malay Basin and elevate the capabilities of PETRONAS’ myPROdata platform—a web-based service granting subscribers access to Malaysia’s exploration and production (E&P) data.
The partnership with ESA focuses on integrating advanced AI-driven geoscience workflows using the EarthNET platform and myPROdata. This innovative approach aims to enhance subsurface data analysis and interpretation, optimizing hydrocarbon exploration in the mature Malay Basin, located offshore Peninsular Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the collaboration with AWS is set to improve the myPROdata platform by incorporating AI and data analytics. AWS will support PETRONAS in implementing advanced features to streamline data management and improve user experience. By integrating these state-of-the-art tools, the platform will empower potential investors with robust, data-driven insights, fostering better decision-making in Malaysia’s E&P sector.
Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, highlighted the importance of these partnerships, stating, “These collaborations underscore PETRONAS’ commitment to innovation as we gear up for the Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) 2025. By leveraging AI and ML, we aim to provide investors and Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) with deeper data insights and more efficient processes, ensuring a smarter, more impactful bid round for all participants.”
The Malaysia Bid Round (MBR) is an annual event offering diverse upstream opportunities to investors, including exploration acreages, discovered resources, and late-life producing assets. The next MBR is set to take place in early 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.
As part of its broader vision, PETRONAS remains dedicated to ensuring a sustainable energy supply while advancing low-carbon and low-emission operations, aligning with its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
